True story of a Malawian teen building a windmill — staged as a new West End musical.
In drought-ravaged Malawi, a 13-year-old boy uses scraps from old machinery and library books to build a windmill — risking ridicule from his community, family, and friends as he fights to bring water and hope back to his village. This musical adaptation follows his determined journey from desperation to innovation, capturing both the hardship and resilience of a community facing environmental collapse.
The stage version is written by Richy Hughes (book & lyrics) and set to music and lyrics by Tim Sutton. It is directed by Lynette Linton, whose previous credits include Shifters and Sweat. The production is presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company in association with Kenny Wax Ltd and Chuchu Nwagu Productions, marking their first musical foray and transferring from the Swan Theatre to @sohoplace in London.
This West End run spans from 25 April to 18 July 2026, with a running time of approximately two and a half hours including an interval.
