This new play centres on economist John Maynard Keynes as he navigates public influence, private relationships and the intellectual currents of early twentieth-century Britain. Moving between the political sphere of Whitehall and the artistic circles of the Bloomsbury Group, the story follows Keynes through a period of social and economic upheaval, examining the ideas and relationships that shaped his thinking about society, prosperity and human fulfilment.

Written by Olivier Award winner James Graham (Punch, Dear England, Labour of Love) and directed by Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys, One Man, Two Guvnors, Giant), the production stars Rory Kinnear (Skyfall, The Diplomat) as Keynes. He is joined by Royal Ballet principal Natalia Osipova, making her West End debut, in a cast that brings together theatre, dance and music.

The play explores Keynes’s connections with figures including Lydia Lopokova, Duncan Grant and Virginia Woolf, situating his personal life alongside the economic and political challenges of the era.
