A Broadway premiere of Bruce Norris's award-winning drama set in a group home for convicted sex offenders.
Downstate is set in a state-sanctioned group home where four men convicted of sex crimes against minors live together under the conditions of their release. Having served their prison sentences, each navigates the narrow and fraught space between legal freedom and social consequence. When a survivor arrives unannounced to confront his abuser, the encounter sets off a chain of events that destabilizes the household and everyone connected to it.
Written by Bruce Norris and winner of the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play, the production makes its Broadway premiere in a strictly limited 12-week engagement at the Booth Theatre, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello. The cast includes Cassie Beck, K. Todd Freeman, Francis Guinan, Adrian Martinez, Al'Jaleel McGhee, Thomas Sadoski, Ivy Wolk, and Liza Colón-Zayas.
