Bill Irwin stars in his adaptation of Molière’s comedy, directed by Brandon J. Dirden.
This new adaptation of Molière’s classic comedy follows Argan, a wealthy hypochondriac consumed by concerns about his health. Constantly consulting doctors and pursuing treatments, he devises a plan to marry his daughter to a physician in the hope of securing lifelong medical care. His scheme is complicated when his daughter has different ambitions and romantic interests of her own.
Tony Award winner Bill Irwin leads the production and has created this new adaptation of The Imaginary Invalid. The cast is directed by Broadway veteran Brandon J. Dirden, bringing a contemporary approach to Molière’s seventeenth-century satire of medicine, family dynamics and self-interest.
Through misunderstandings, deceptions and competing agendas, the play examines the lengths people will go to in pursuit of security and control. This Broadway staging reintroduces one of Molière’s best-known works through a newly adapted version centred on Irwin’s interpretation of the title role.
