Great staging, Great singing, Beautiful costumes, Absorbing

See it if You want a shorter opera in English with gorgeous costuming and staging.

Don't see it if You have very little children. The audience members were not kind to some families with kids around me. It's a bit long for kids, as well.

Delightful, Entertaining, Great singing, Great staging, Quirky

See it if I loved the use of puppetry in opera. Lots of humor and actual acting. Shortened version in English makes it more accessible. Rotating set!

Don't see it if A little too long for a one act.

Great staging, Great singing, Enchanting, Delightful

See it if you enjoy an enchanting staging of a classic opera. The Queen's aria is worth the price of a ticket.

Don't see it if you have very specific likes and dislikes and are not open to opera

Those puppets, though, Delightful, Great staging, Great singing, Ahh, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!

See it if It's super fun;great 1st opera for kids. ALSO a great 1st opera for adults. Fantastic puppetry & a fun story. Short enough you'll want more.

Don't see it if You want the traditional German version. But having seen both versions this year, I can say that the original's better, but this is more fun

Intense, Great staging, Entertaining, Great singing, Fabulous puppets

See it if you love The Magic Flute. This is a extraordinary whimsical new staging using puppets to extend the theatricality of the production.

Don't see it if you feel stressing production elements distracts from the singing even though the singing in this production is spectacular.

Don't see it if you are not into opera performances. This show is 2-hour long without intermission.

For a previous production

"Truth be told, Taymor’s staging achieves its finest form in the Met’s digest version, because it doesn’t really have enough ideas to sustain Mozart’s full-length work."

"Chuckles and puppets make for a fun night with the kids, but singing like Lewek’s is what the magic of opera is all about."

For a previous production

"The performance boasted a winning cast and glowing playing from the orchestra, led with elegance and insight by Jane Glover. I’ve long been in the minority in finding Taymor’s stylized, puppet-filled staging overly busy — too inventive for its own good. But the audience applauded each scenic touch and stage trick, including some children near me, though there seemed not that many of them in attendance overall."

"This was an assured performance, with an easy quality to it, seamless with the singers and essential to the pleasures, and pure entertainments, of this seasonal delight."

"...the Julie Taymor production, though getting a bit dated, offers plenty of spectacle and goofiness to keep fidgety kids engaged."
