The New York Times

"Although this production uses many of the tools associated with theater spoofs of classic kitsch, its aim is less to send up than to crash land...Ms. Jarcho traffics in a style that might be called post-camp, in which silly pleasure is never part of the bargain...Even when the blood starts to flow, the suspense and shock levels stay low...Such listlessness is clearly part of this production’s master plan, and it’s extended into the performances." Time Out New York

"It's not just that Julia Jarcho is one of our more compelling playwrights; it's that 'Angel' mashes up all the action-lady tropes of pop culture objects like 'La Femme Nikita' and (of course) the play's titular inspiration, 'Charlie's Angels,' and then imports the whole shebang into downtown experimental theater...In true pulp fashion, Jarcho and director Knud Adams are in thrall to their cinematic inspirations...But Jarcho's looking at the girl-fighter archetype with a cynical eye." New York Theatre Review

“Jarcho’s scenes, played with taut energy by the excellent ensemble, mostly zip along as directed by Adams. In counterpoint to the more forceful, action-movie elements of the plot there are also lyrical and incantatory passages...The play seems to be critiquing, quite subtlety, a world made by men in which women compete and turn on each other out of a need for power...That some people find love in spite of this might make us believe there are purely good angels after all.” Full Review

Fun, Nutty

See it if You have a sweet tooth for quick-cut action, music, lighting effects, secret agents and don't mind a slightly murky story.

Don't see it if You are more inclined to the more predictable well made play.
