A musical adaptation of Moyoco Anno's manga starring Sophia Anne Caruso as a brothel worker in twentieth-century Paris.
Set in twentieth-century Paris, Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen follows Colette, a young woman working at a brothel who begins documenting the fantasies, confessions, and private sorrows of her clients, shifting her position from object of desire to keen observer of those around her. Alongside this transformation runs a parallel story — Colette's own unresolved and destructive attachment to Léon, her childhood love, which she cannot leave behind.
Based on Moyoco Anno's award-winning manga and marking the first manga adaptation developed into an American musical in English, the show is written by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and Leah Nanako Winkler, and directed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford. The production stars Sophia Anne Caruso (Beetlejuice, Lazarus, Grey House) in the lead role and plays Off-Broadway at The Night Egg at the Culture Club.
