About the Show
A London revival of the Tony Award-winning musical inspired by the Newsboys Strike of 1899.
This musical tells the story of the newsboys of New York who took on American mega titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst in a fight against unfair working conditions. Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Choreography. A brand new immersive production performed 'in the round' makes its UK premiere.
"I can absolutely see its themes resonating with audiences, particularly its inspiring message that the next generation of social justice warriors can change the world. ... 'Newsies' is going to be hitting the headlines for all the right reasons."
"Along the way it slightly loses track of its young characters’ fears and frustrations as it celebrates their defiant athleticism. If the storytelling were as sensational as the dancing, this would run for ever."
" ‘Newsies’ is a perfect example of how a hard-working, perfectly synchronised cast can be a rousing metaphor for collective action of a more real-world kind, thrillingly embodying the kind of change the world needs to see."
“Newsies represents the very best of theatre; immersing its audience in the story and going all out to create an unforgettable show that is truly spectacular. Hold the front page, because London’s most revolutionary musical is an undeniable hit”
"The complexities of the 'newsies’ struggle may feel under-explored for adults, but as a primer on unionisation in our winter of discontent it’s a refreshing proposition for younger audiences."
