Written and performed by Alaa Shehada, The Bridge follows a journey from Jenin to Amman as he delivers a yearly gift from his mother to her sister: a container of olive oil made from his grandfather’s trees. To complete the trip, he must cross the bridge that serves as the primary route for Palestinians traveling in and out of the West Bank. As the container slowly leaks along the way, it becomes a reminder of home, memory, and connection.

Blending storytelling, stand-up comedy, and physical theatre, the play recounts encounters with fellow travelers while exploring themes of family, displacement, identity, and resilience. Set against the realities of occupation and the historical legacy of colonialism in Palestine, the work balances humor and personal reflection with a broader examination of movement, belonging, and home.
