See it if You grew up watching SBSP or are the parent of a kid who did. Very clever human adaptation of cartoon characters. Insider references. Set A+

Don't see it if You are unfamiliar with Sponge Bob. Not enough there to grab onto unless you understand the backstory.

Also The staging is great. Colorful and clever use of everyday objects to c... Read more Read less

See it if You grew up watching Spongebob and want to escape life for a while. Love big time musical sets/and numbers.

Great acting, Great singing, Funny, Entertaining, Delightful

See it if OMG-this show blew me away. Never watched the cartoon and on Broadway it just works. Good story, great music, exceptional acting. See it!

Don't see it if If you hate the cartoon, you probably won't like this. I never saw the cartoon and while I didn't get the inside jokes, I loved it. So fun

Entertaining, Delightful, Great story

See it if You want to have fun! It's also a deeper story than I thought it would be, about fitting in and inclusion, and friendship.

Don't see it if You are very serious and cannot get into silliness. You want to see performers who you already know. You don't want kids in the audience.

Delightful, Great singing, Fun, Entertaining

See it if you love big musicals, extravagant costumes, and an all around fun time; also helps if you love spongebob

Don't see it if you are unfamiliar with spongebob or don't like shows that attract kids and their families

Fun, Entertaining, Fantastic costumes & set, Great adaptation

See it if you love great costumes & sets - it won the Tony for Scenic Design in a Musical. You enjoy fun kid-friendly musicals (actors do a great job)

Don't see it if you want a drama, plot surprises, or sophisticated dialog/humor. (FYI, SBS is predictable & simple, but has a deeper takeaway - see below).

Also SBS slyly touches on serious topics in a deceptively simple way. At th... Read more Read less

Entertaining, Quirky, Funny

See it if You’re a fan of the show you’lo love this. Some great #s. I can see the attraction but I’m not a fan of the show.

Don't see it if I personally could have lived without seeing this but my 14 year niece wanted to and she loved it.

More than just a cartoon

See it if you like interesting costumes, stagecraft and FUN The projections were wonderful BTW

Don't see it if the songs and dialogue matter, because the sound was murky at times, but frankly I could just watch it with no hearing & be interested

Flashy, Overrated, Great staging, Strong cast, Idiotic

See it if you are 7 years old or are the parent of a 7 year old. Young children will love this! It's truly a spectacle, but that's all it is.

Don't see it if You're an adult looking for something more than bright lights and bubbles. This is a show geared towards a very young audience.

Clever, Delightful, Great staging, Fluffy, Enchanting

See it if Willing to turn off your brain and appreciate a world of zany colors, bouncy melodies and optimism.

Don't see it if Looking for intellectual stimulation. (See Junk instead.)

Zany, Entertaining, Nautically nonsensical, Overrated

See it if Would love the "classic" Spongebob lines. To marvel at the on point physicality in casting of Spongebob, Squidward, and Patrick. Pure silly.

Don't see it if Expect far more quality in a Broadway score; pop writers provided music here, and it shows. Prefer shows about human stories sans winking

Great staging, Great writing, Quirky, Relevant, Fun

See it if you're down for a kids show that totally works as an 'adult' show with a strong plot and well-rounded characters

Don't see it if you're not in the mood for something fluffy and lighthearted

Clever, Delightful, Funny, Great singing, Great staging

See it if You are a fan of the show. Have children that are fans or just looking for something light and funny. Great stage design.

Don't see it if You do not like childish shows.

Delightful, Great staging, Quirky, Fun

See it if you're a fan of the show. Fun for the whole family. Beautiful sets!

Don't see it if you're not familiar with the show. Not required (I've never seen the TV show) but I think you'd enjoy it much more if you're a SpongeBob fan

Clever, Delightful, Great singing, Great staging, Refreshing

See it if you love Spongebob, innovative staging with great performances, and an eclectic mashup of songs and genres

Don't see it if stiffer, more classical pieces of musical theater canon

"Tina Landau’s exhaustingly imaginative production...You will probably adore this musical if: a) 'SpongeBob' was a formative influence of your childhood, b) you are a stoner who tokes up to watch reruns of the show on YouTube; or c) if you are (like my date for this show) a parent of 'SpongeBob'-...

"In heavy times, we can all use a little nonsense. (The good kind)...Here’s where the real twist comes: the show is very good. This is largely thanks to Tina Landau, its conceiver and director, who fills the stage with visual wit, from giant Rube Goldberg machines that spit out bouncy boulders to...
