About the show

Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) presents a brand-new set of original short plays told solely through movement, no props, sets, costumes, or words. More…

Set to a fresh soundtrack and dynamic lighting design, the mime re-definers of BKBX journey from film noir to political protest, and everywhere in between. 'See Reverse' is comprised of ten provocative yet accessible short plays strung together by a common theme and suspended disbelief. The works run the gamut from lighthearted ('Plainview Players,' a loving parody of community theater) to somber ('Heartland,' a portrait of a dysfunctional father-daughter relationship).

"'See Reverse' is theater at its finest...The pieces performed truly embody the full range of what the art of mime is capable of. With only gestures, music, lights and well-applied facial makeup, they took the audience on an emotional journey covering several profound themes...'See Reverse' was truly an artistic, thought-provoking delight and I highly anticipate seeing how this fine company, and its extremely talented cast, evolve in the near future." Theatre is Easy

"With radical minimalism, the BKBX ensemble creates a world of intricate simplicity and heightened expressiveness: the lack of dialogue never hinders, but rather brings more clarity to their storytelling...Singing praises to them with flowery words would almost be insulting, for they accomplish much while uttering none...It's a true delight to witness the sparks of their creativity that come to fruition as the result of true collaboration." "The ten pieces in 'See Reverse' are ambitious. Some have quite intricate narratives, not all of whose plots I discerned...But the show's power doesn't depend upon full comprehension...Part of this joy derives, I believe, from the surprise and delight that finely articulated gestures can transmit so much meaning, which is to say, content. In an ethnically and racially polarized world, it's reassuring that people can recognize and identify with common emotions and situations." Full Review

"I can’t say that I am the biggest mime enthusiast in the world...and I found it very entertaining. My attention was consistently drawn to the inventiveness of the vignettes and the precision with which they were executed. The production has a sense of being very well rehearsed and precise while also maintaining spontaneity. With all of the cacophony in the world, it is also pleasant and refreshing to view situations that are communicated only non-verbally." Full Review

"This engaging full-length program of mime sequences is terrifically performed by a troupe of seven highly talented practitioners...Many of the sequences are simply comic exercises or intriguing ciphers with varying degrees of entertainment. All are accomplished, but their impact is arguably lessened by the amount of them...'See Reverse' combines superior exhibitions of mime, fascinating episodes and flawlessly presentation. It is, though, a case where less could have been more." Full Review
