Adapted from Rachel Joyce’s bestselling novel, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry tells the story of an ordinary man whose quiet life in Devon is transformed by a letter from a long-lost friend. Instead of simply posting his reply, Harold leaves his house and keeps walking—determined to deliver it in person. His journey takes him across England, from small villages to windswept coasts, where encounters with strangers and unexpected acts of kindness shape his pilgrimage of love, regret, and renewal. Meanwhile, his wife, Maureen, faces her path of reckoning at home.

This new stage musical is adapted by Rachel Joyce herself and features an original score by Passenger, the chart-topping indie musician best known for the global hit “Let Her Go.” The production is directed by Katy Rudd, whose work includes The Ocean at the End of the Lane (National Theatre/West End) and Ballet Shoelet Shoes.

Leading the cast is Mark Addy (The Full Monty, Game of Thrones) as Harold Fry, with Jenna Russell (Sunday in the Park with George, Hello, Dolly!) as Maureen. Following its acclaimed, sold-out premiere at Chichester Festival Theatre, the production transfers to Theatre Royal Haymarket from January 2026 as part of its West End run.
