A sci-fi thriller set aboard a failing research vessel where a mysterious arrival forces a reckoning.
Specimen unfolds aboard the Nomad, a corporate research vessel returning to Earth after a disastrous mission. With systems failing, communication faltering, and portions of the ship left unstable following an unexplained internal explosion, the crew's situation grows increasingly precarious. When an unannounced pod docks and delivers what appears to be a rare and valuable lifeform, the discovery raises the possibility of salvaging the mission entirely—until uncertainty sets in over what, or who, has actually arrived.
Stripped of reliable authority and functioning infrastructure, the crew is forced to determine the nature of their visitor and, crucially, what to call it. The play examines how classification, language, and designation shape power and decision-making under pressure, using the enclosed world of the Nomad to probe the stakes of naming in the absence of certainty.
