Broadway
Looking for big Broadway in the Big Apple? If you have a New York trip on the books for this fall, you should consider adding “King Kong” to your itinerary. Previews begin October 5 and, if the musical’s thrice-extended Australian run is any indication, it’s going to be a massive hit. (Pun intended.)
If you haven’t seen “School of Rock” yet, your window is closing. The musical adaptation of the Jack Black comedy ends its Broadway run on January 20. It’s a great show for the whole family (or for adults who want to get in touch with their inner adolescent rockstar).
The latest musical to open on Broadway, members are giving “Pretty Woman” a ShowScore of 80. And if you loved the film adaptation of “Les Miserables,” then you might want to add this to your list. Samantha Barks, who rocked our world as Eponine, stars as Vivian.
Beyond Broadway
Experience the trials and travails of everyone’s favorite milkman in a whole new way with a Yiddish-language staging (with English supertitles) of ‘Fiddler on the Roof.’ Sporting a remarkable ShowScore of 89, the production is leaving audiences and critics both with precious little to kvetch about. Performances have been extended through October 25th.
An all-new production of the record-breaking Broadway hit “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” is now burning up the stage Off Broadway with a ShowScore of 86. The revue celebrates the best songs of the legendary songsmiths Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and includes classics such as “Stand by Me,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and (ironically enough) “On Broadway.”
