THE CONTENDERS
“SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Mean Girls” lead the nominations with 12 each. That’s a lot of love so there’s plenty to discuss afterwards with your fellow Show-Score members.Afterwards we can argue about who was best in show since so many of the actors are up for Tony Awards, too.
Just behind those musicals are three more must-sees with 11 nominations each.
"The Band's Visit" might just be the frontrunner for Best Musical given its reviews. (We're also celebrating that show with a special "Stage and Screen" event.)
The revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” starring Tony winner Jessie Mueller was also showered with nominations.
The latest revival of “My Fair Lady” is also up for the same number of Tony Awards including four nominations for the principal actors.
And that's not all. The critical acclaimed revival of "Once On This Island," received 8 nominations, and could well win some prizes.
Finally Disney’s “Frozen” has transformed from blockbuster movie into their latest big budget stage musical. Afterwards we can discuss whether Tony should have shown it more love, though it did receive 3 nominations including in the all important category of Best Musical.
The 72nd annual Tony Awards will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday June 10th, 2018 8/7c. They are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing.
